"Using IT to Conduct the Decennial Census"
SPECIAL: OUR ANNUAL BRING-A-FRIEND EVENT
(and "Surf and Turf" for dinner)
Speaker: William A. Lloyd
United States Census Bureau
"The U.S. Census counts every resident in the United States and is required by the Constitution to take place every 10 years. The data collected by the Census helps communities receive more than $400 billion in federal funds each year for things like hospitals, job training centers, schools and more."
How does the Census Bureau conduct such a massive undertaking? It is no accident that the first commercial computer ever installed was at Census in 1951. How has the Bureau's information technology changed since then?
Our speaker is William A. Lloyd, a Supervisory IT Specialist in the Customer Assistance Branch of the United States Census Bureau in Suitland, MD, where he has been employed since December 1983. Presently, Mr. Lloyd oversees the processes involved with bringing new employees into the agency, ensuring that these individuals have all of the necessary computing and connectivity resources to accomplish their work in a timely fashion.
In addition to his work at Census, Bill is an adjunct Engineering professor at Prince George's Community College in Largo MD. Further, Mr. Lloyd and his wife Joyce are the founders of Research Technology Associates, Inc., a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization that receives donations of surplus computer equipment from government agencies, businesses and individuals.
Mr. Lloyd and his wife live in Upper Marlboro, MD.
BRING A FRIEND! Everyone is always welcome at our meetings. For this meeting we repeat what we did last year: "Surf and Turf" (3 Scampi & Filet Mignon) will be one of the selections on our menu. In addition we will have some additional items for our raffle, which benefits our scholarship fund. Come on out and have a great dinner and hear a presentation of interest to everyone!
Some subjects we are exploring for future meetings include smart grid development, the effects of technology on social relationships, search engine optimization for your website and stream computing. We're also planning our second cosponsored social networking event. Keep checking into our website for details as they become available.
For sale: Waterproof towels
